Ashmore, Illinois: World's Largest Lincoln
Centerpiece of an old campground. So tall that he could look in the windows of a seven-story building. He appears ready to touch the clouds. Note: Property currently closed, Abe partly visible from the road.

Honest Abe's Dishonest Origins
One of my friends forwarded your Road Cheese tour site and I have to tell you, the Abe Lincoln statue in Charleston (Day 6) is bad. Honest Abe stands on the grounds of the former Springhaven campground. Springhaven was originally created by a local banker that embezzled funds from a local bank to create Springhaven. Of course that banker went to jail, but Honest Abe in all his fiberglass glory lives on... The 'park' is now owned by a family out of Chicago and is for sale. My husband I and rent a weekend 'home' there. Our weekend 'home' is an old broken down trailer that we lovingly refurbished. We like to refer to the decorating as 'tacky tourist'. Lucky us, we get to drive by honest Abe everything we go by. We always give him a thumbs up.
[Pam Werden, 04/28/2002]Going east on Rt 16 you'll pass through Charleston, which has a lot of "Lincoln sites," but they do NOT advertise the worst. About 2 miles east of Charleston is a Campground called "Springhaven" that has the world's ugliest huge statue of Abe Lincoln. From the highway it appears that Abe is making an obscene gesture with his finger. If you get closer it's simply ugly and ill-proportioned. The city commissioned to have this built and it sat in the town square for only a few months because it was an embarrassment.
