In New Mexico it is common for friends and relatives to erect an informal memorial for a person who has suffered a violent or unexpected death. The memorial is always located as close as possible to the place where the death occurred. It typically has a cross and flowers, with candles and mementos. Such a memorial is called a descanso.
Fans of the TV series Breaking Bad have erected a descanso for the fictional character, Walter White, a.k.a. Heisenberg, next to the property that was used to film the site of the meth lab that was the location of Heisenberg's death. The Quonset hut that held the fictitious meth lab in which Walter died can be seen from the descanso site.
A few days before this memorial was erected, fans published a fake obituary in the Albuquerque Journal, news of which spread rapidly over the globe. A copy of this obituary is included in the descanso.
