Address:: 7000 Constitution Loop, Fort Myers, FL
Directions:: New University Pyramid Village. I-75 exit 123. West on Corkscrew Rd two miles, then north on US 41 for 3.5 miles. East onto Constitution Blvd. Go about 3 blocks and look for "Pyramid / Constitution Loop" sign on your right. Enter driveway/road here. You should see the big head just ahead.

Giant Beethoven Head

I actually live in the neighborhood (San Carlos Park). The main attraction really should be the pyramids themselves. They are fabulous condos built on an artificial lake and, although small, are quite beautiful. Unfortunately, the residents are not wild about curiosity seekers. I always show this place to my visitors from out of town before taking them to the beaches and many other attractions in the area.

The pyramids can be seen beyond the big head, which guards their entrance road. We urge our readers to respect the pyramid-dwellers' privacy.

Giant Beethoven Head and Pyramids

I took a bunch of photos (cloudy day though), including the mini Sphinx that sits in front of the big Beethoven head and the entrance sign as seen from Sanibel Blvd./Constitution Blvd. Also the little plastic owls, one at the lower right of the Beethoven head and one just behind the Sphinx. There were a few others about the property as well. The mystery continues.

I was able to find the New University Pyramid Village website. Curiously enough it is in Austria, home of Beethoven! Most of the old site (www.pyramidvillage.at) is in German, while the new site is in English and has more photos (www.pyramidvillage.net). Still don't get the link between Beethoven, the pyramids and the owls. The pyramid buildings are of far more interest than some silly Beethoven head.

Giant Beethoven Head

I just went there today, June 27, 2005, and I can verify it really exists, and I can also give more specific directions. The Beethoven head is in South Fort Myers east of route 41. When going north on route 41, turn right onto Sanibel Blvd, then turn right two or three blocks down the road. It's on a construction site and there's a sign that says that only construction workers are allowed in, but you can still see the Beethoven Head before crossing the "No Trespassing" sign.

Giant Beethoven Head

A giant white Beethoven head, made of stone, sits in the middle of some apartments. There's also a pyramid there. Why these were built, I have no idea! (does it really matter when it's roadside?)

Also, there's a Twistee treat not too far from The Big Head. Everyone loves getting ice cream from a giant ice cream shaped building.
