Totally worth the stop for the fish hatchery alone!
[Jeff V, 09/04/2016]
Bonneville Lock and Dam was built from 1933-38 to provide hydroelectric power as well as improve inland navigation on the Columbia River. The dam is part of a series of dams and locks that allow barges to navigate over 400 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean up to Lewiston, ID. The visitor center features tours of the power house, fish ladders, and interactive exhibits related to salmon migration and the history of the Columbia River and hydroelectric power. The dam complex also has hiking trails and amazing views of the Columbia Gorge.
