Robot Cyborg Muffler Man

I wanted to stop here while passing through, but was disappointed to see a huge Trump campaign sign on the Muffler Man. I decided not to stop because it wouldn't be possible to take a photo without getting the sign in the photo. I wad disappointed that I went out of my way only to have the view obstructed by the sign.

We've had other recent complaints about this sign disrupting the tourism photo op economy.

Still standing and is in good shape.

This hybrid Muffler Man features an alien operator in its belly. Probably the most bizarre of Mark Cline's modern-day Muffler Men.

Robot Cyborg Muffler Man -- very cool! There is also a much smaller android hanging out on the property.

Mark Cline originally modified this Muffler Man for a business named Galaxy Golf in Nags Head, NC. Hurricane Bertha destroyed it in 1996; Mark salvaged the pieces that remained and brought them back to the yard of his Enchanted Castle Studios.

In 2010 Mark was asked to portray Patsy Cline's second husband in a play about her life. The woman who played Patsy was married to a guy named Paul who owned several recycling businesses. He and Mark struck up a friendship, and Paul eventually paid Mark to rebuild the cyborg Muffler Man (with a head duplicated from Galaxy Golf remains) as the 24-foot-tall "Paulverizer" and stand it outside one of Paul's buildings. It was unveiled on October 19, 2013.

Mark told us that he's related to Patsy Cline's first husband, Gerald Cline (not the one in the play), and that the owner of Dinosaur Land, Joanne Leight, was good friends with Patsy; the two women would walk down the sidewalk together pushing their babies in strollers side by side.

"I'd have been about the age of those babies," said Mark, "and now I do work for Dinosaur Land. See how it all connects?"
