Muffler Man - The Fair Giant

I can give a little history to it. He now stands proudly at the entrance of Anne Arundel County Fair of Maryland just outside of Annapolis. He looks like Paul Bunyan, black boots, blue pants, red shirt and red wool cap. He has the black beard. He has been located there for about 14 years. He used to stand on top of Baldwins Construction Equipment building for years holding two large Tonka trucks. Frank Baldwin would bring it down to the county fair each when it was located down at the Sany Point State Park on the Chesapeake Bay. He was a member of the Anne Arundel County Fair and helped with the relocation to Crownsville, MD. When he died a while ago, his wife donated the giant the the Fair for permanent residence. Some one had offered her $16,000 for him but she felt he belonged to the Fair. I believe his hands both face up has if he were holding an ax, but now he holds a welcome sign.

He's at the Anne Arundel County Fair Grounds in Maryland. This particular muffler man is dressed up as "Paul Bunyan" I guess. He looks more like a Bluto in disguise. He was at one time on top of a Construction equipment sales building. As far as I know, he's never held a muffler. He used to hold Tonka toys in his hands when he stood on top of the building. I can remember my first sightings of him and thinking, "What a waste of Tonka toys!" I was about 5 then. Later, after the business closed, and before the County took posession of him, we used to plot ways that we could disfigure or destroy him and his EVIL grin. We never did, but we spent many a drunken night laughing at the thought of finding a male appendage large enough to crazy glue up there.

There is a "Paul Bunyan" muffler located at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds on generals' highway just outside of Annapolis, MD. Although it used to sit atop a local tractor store near the local mall it was relocated shortly after the store closed.
