At the intersection of Dawes Place and Norbloom Avenue in the Briarwood subdivision, in one of the front yards, is what is left of a Civil War monument. It was built in 1869 to honor the 700 McLean County residents who fell during the war.
The monument was originally located in Bloomington's Franklin Park, where it was struck by lightning and decayed quickly. It was replaced by the monument in Miller Park in 1913. The old monument was moved into an area that was sparsely populated back in 1913, but Bloomington spread out into the area.
