Inside the Bemidji Visitors Center (very close to the Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox statues). The fireplace looks fairly ordinary if you aren't looking for it. Nice little park on the lake outside. Worth a stop if you're the neighborhood, but don't go out of your way just for this!

Lots of Bunyan artifacts to see! The museum also has very nice bathrooms and a small gift shop.

The Fireplace of States was constructed in 1934-35 by the WPA. It features stones from every state in the union, as well as Minnesota counties and Canadian provinces. It was moved in 1995 from the old Bemidji Civic and Commerce Association building to its current location inside of the Bemidji Tourist Information Center, right on Lake Bemidji, across from the Paul Bunyan and Babe statues.
The center also features dozens of Paul Bunyan artifacts, such as his shotgun, toothpicks, and boxer shorts.

Our favorite old story about the Fireplace of States is that it's missing one Canadian province, but that no one can remember which one because all the identifying tags fell off years ago.
