Home of the Hamburger

Will cook the world's largest hamburger on August 4, 2001 -- 8,000 pounds. Parade, Catsup slide, Bun toss and many other activities, plus Hamburger Hall of Fame. Lots of fun for the family!

World's Largest Hamburger

The hamburger was first made in Seymour, Wisconsin. They celebrate this every year, and have built the world's largest hamburger there.

Seymour battles New Haven, CT; Hamburg, NY; and Athens, TX for the title "Birthplace of the Hamburger." And let's not even discuss the firefight over cheeseburgers.

Hamburger Hall of Fame

We visited Seymour three years ago to check out what turned out to be a major highlight on our trip. The Hamburger Hall of Fame was a must-see once we read about it in our tourist info. It was completely free (but the lady was so sweet I left some $$ in the donation jar!) but did have items for sale to let all know we had been there. We visited many other places on that trip but not a one came close to the warm reception we received there. The lady showed us all around and patiently answered all the kids' questions. The attractions talked about the hamburger and how it came about. The town had cooked the world's largest hamburger at one point and there were photos and newspaper articles about that. The only time I had to turn my head so I wouldn't offend this nice lady by laughing was when I saw the elaborate plans to someday build a special building for all this meaty memorabilia. It was truly inspired! We got some marvelous photos of my youngest dressed up like a chef and serving us plastic burgers in a little hamburger stand.

Hamburger Museum

I must say that Seymour was the most interesting place in recent travels. They have a huge grill on display across from the local Burger Museum -- the grill that was used to cook the World's Largest Hamburger ever. It took 13,000 people to eat it! Unfortunately the doesn't use its publicity to sell burgers. In fact, when we asked a local the best place to get a hamburger, they responded "Dairy Queen."
