Staunton, Virginia: Freaky Fake Floral House

A local told me that the little old lady who lived in this house passed away six months ago. He said there are considerably less flowers than there used to be. The house is for sale, so it may not be around much longer.

Totally over the top! If you are in Staunton it is worth taking a minute to stop and ponder someone's obsession. Just a brief stroll away from the camera museum.

Keep an eye out for the sweet elderly woman who lives here. She often sits silently in the middle of her bloom extravaganza and will offer a cheerful smile and enthusiastic wave if you spot her.

We were driving out of Staunton to do some Roadsiding in the surrounding area, minding our own business, when out of nowhere a flower-covered house leapt out and astounded us with an incredible burst of floral color. We brought the van to a screeching halt and hopped out to record this horticultural anomaly. Yes, the flowers may be fake, but the impact on your psyche is real. And you know the old saying that us roadsiders live by: it's always good to stop and smell the roses -- at least as long as it takes to get a few choice photos.
