[Kristin Jostad, 05/27/2019]The Lithia water fountain is closed. It's not clear if or when it will reopen. There is a sign about the water containing high levels of barium.

The healing waters of Lithia Springs brought early tourists and car campers to Ashland in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Today the fizzy water bubbles up from fountains in Ashland's downtown plaza, tasting of sulfur and bicarbonate. There's traces of lithium salt too, for which the town is named. Swallow for good health and good luck (they say).

The fountain was shut off when elevated levels of barium were detected in the fizzy. smelly Lithia Water. However, the city later decided that no one ever drinks a LOT of Lithia Water, so the fountain was tuned back on. Signs have been posted cautioning drinkers against over-consumption.
