In San Francisco's Hilltop Park on Hunter's Point Ridge is a really unnecessarily large object, a sundial whose gnomon (the part that casts the shadow) is 70 feet long. It is bright yellow and can be seen from US 101. It was designed by sculptor Jacques Overhoff and built in 1985.
