US Army Parachute Test Platoon Monument
A small memorial built to commemorate early training site for newly formed parachute troops in 1940. There were two parachute towers built on the residential property of James Strong, a Navy vet. He and Staley Switlik, a Polish immigrant, started the Safe Parachute Jumps Company. The Test Platoons trained here from 1940 to 1942. They were from Fort Bennington. I wonder if those who trained here were part of the "Band of Brothers" who trained in Toccoa, Ga?
