Muffler Man - Mr. Bendo

I stopped by to meet Mr. Bendo today. As I was taking a picture, I spotted something just inside the door of the muffler shop - they had Mr. Bendo's CAST from his run in on St. Patrick's Day! It was even signed and cut like a real cast!! Super cool!

Mr. Bendo

Mr. Bendo was replaced yesterday by workers and a crane operator after being hit by a drunken driver in Sioux Falls, SD a few months ago. The repairs took several weeks.

The Sioux Falls landmark returns after his crippling leg injury on St. Patrick's Day, repaired by volunteers and helped with money contributed by the statue's fans. According to the story in the Argus Leader, Mr. Bendo now sports a red shirt with gray paints. There are touches of gray in his beard -- perhaps the first on any Muffler Men, many which are now nearly 50 years old. Mr. Bendo is also decorated with a shamrock on his left lapel (as a charm against the next inebriated Irish reveler?).

The Muffler Man in Sioux Falls has been knocked over by a driver on 3/17/10. Apparently, the driver tried to make a high speed turn, misjudged, and ran into Mr. Bendo's leg.

[Pat Miller, 03/17/2010]

To the relief of his many fans, the battered Mr. Bendo was repaired, repainted, and restored to his spot outside of Buck's Muffler Shop on May 15, 2010.

Muffler Man - Mr. Bendo

Mr. Bendo is still at Buck's Muffler Shop, wearing an employee's uniform with a "Mr. Bendo" name tag. We're pretty sure we saw this guy on the corner of Cliff and 12th (not 10th as noted in a previous tip).
