Whiteface Summit
Pay admission at the toll gate and drive 2,300 feet up over the next five miles. Once you park at the top, there are two ways to reach the summit: one via a path of somewhat steep stone stairs, other via a tunnel and elevator. Unsurprisingly, the wait for the elevator can be long. On a clear day you can see Lake Placid and much, much more. On a cloudy day you can watch the clouds roll up over the summit.
Definitely bring a jacket because it can be windy and the temperature drops! You can also bike and hike up to the summit.
It is closed to cars in the winter, but you can cross-country ski up if you like a challenge! We always bring family and friends here when they come to visit us.
