A statue of two men fighting bare-knuckled is a tribute to the First World Championship Heavyweight Prize Fight, held here on May 10, 1870, because had the fight been in New Orleans the boxers would've been arrested.

First World Championship Heavyweight Prize Fight held in the United States, May 10, 1870 between Jed Mace, Beeston, Norwich, England and Tom Allen of Birmingham. Mace was the victor of this 10 Round bout in Kenner's Old Sugar House, 500 yards from the Mississippi River, in front of a thousand spectators for a $2,500 prize.
