Sculpted in bronze by alumnus Russ Faxon, unveiled April 2014. Big Red -- a floppy person-in-a-red-creature-suit that's part Cookie Monster, part H.R. Pufnstuf -- has been the WKU mascot since its debut on December 1, 1979.

Near Western Kentucky University's alumni building, a statue of Big Red -- the school's Cookie Monsterish plate-mouthed mascot -- is frozen in an eternal sideline booster dance. The university has been very candid in its enthusiasm to infuse Big Red memories, milestones, and merchandise into the lives of its graduates.
