Lufkin, Texas: World's Largest Moon Rock on Public Display

Of the 80 moon rocks released for public display by NASA, this is the biggest: 7.6 pounds, sealed in a lucite pyramid. Surprisingly unveiled to the public April 26, 2014, in a little-known, rural museum -- and NASA says the rock will stay here.

World's Largest Moon Rock on Public Display

The Naranjo Museum of Natural History is just south of Lufkin and has large dioramas of the prehistoric periods, many fully-excavated dinosaurs, and tons of smaller fossils everywhere. It also houses rare uncut/cut gems, collections on ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, Vikings, the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. And it has replicas of the Mars Rover and Space Shuttle. A surprisingly good museum for its location.

I was actually very impressed with this museum! Was not expecting much except for a moon rock, then was pleasantly surprised by a few very interesting dinosaur exhibits.
