The Kentucky K-9 Memorial still stands; it now has a fence around it.
[The Void, 10/04/2017]
Kentucky's first (and to my knowledge only) memorial to K-9 police dogs killed in the line of duty was dedicated in 2009. Standing outside the Bell County Courthouse is a life-size bronze statue (sculpted by Jaime Corum) of King, a fallen K-9 police dog. Both King and his handler, Sheriff's Deputy Sean Pursifull, were killed in 2008 when a couple of teenagers, fleeing from police, intentionally rammed their car into Pursifull's parked cruiser.
At the base of King's statue are plaques honoring six other K-9s who were also gave their lives protecting the Commonwealth of Kentucky. We salute you, our furry friends, who stand in harm's way for us.
