Famous architect Philip Johnson built his box-like Glass House in 1947, in the middle of 50 acres of exclusive Connecticut real estate. For decades it was off-limits, then open only to very expensive and limited tours as a roadside attraction for the upper crust. Now it's open to self-guided -- slightly less expensive -- tours for the general public. No pets or children under ten. Be careful where you walk.
