Palm Springs, California: Palm Springs Air Museum

Opened in 1996 to exclusively house World War II combat planes, but expanded its collection to include more recent wars. Has one of the world's largest collections of flyable WWII planes, including a B-17 Flying Fortress that you can walk through. Several free access jets in the parking lot.

745 N. Gene Autry Trail, Palm Springs, CA
West side of the city, next to the airport. I-10 exit 123, then drive south a little over three miles on N. Gene Autry Trail. You'll see the museum on the right.
