Casper, Wyoming: Life-Size T Rex Lit From Within

Unveiled June 2014. A 13-foot-tall lifelike outdoor bronze T. rex, titled "Essence of Rex" by sculptor Chris Navarro. One side is skeletal while the other is covered with skin. Its innards are illuminated by 1,500 LEDs, which turn on at dusk.

Address:: Josendal Rd, Casper, WY
Directions:: Outside the Tate Geological Museum. I-25 exit 188A. Drive south on US 87 Bus/Center St. for a half-mile. Turn left at the stoplight onto US 20/1st St., then quick right onto Hwy 251/S. Wolcott St. Drive south 1.5 miles. The road will change to Casper Mountain Road. Continue uphill. Go through a stoplight (the road to the right leads into Casper College), then past a second entrance. At the third entrance turn right and the Tate Museum will be in front of you, a bit to the right; the T Rex is on the right (north) side of the museum.
Hours:: Best at night. Local health policies may affect hours and access.

New 2014 bronze statue -- by design, one side of the dinosaur is covered by metal skin, and the other side has the skeleton exposed. The big unveiling in June promised innards night lighting... so maybe dusk trips are the best hedge? Activate your Sunset Alert (tm)!
