Chattanooga, Tennessee: Mini-Railroad Inside Choo-Choo Hotel (In Transition)

Begun in 1973, it's one of the largest model train displays in the U.S. If a day is too short to take it all in, you can spend the night at the hotel in a Victorian railroad car.

Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel. Downtown. US Hwy 27 exits 1A or !B. Drive east on MLK Blvd for a quarter-mile. Turn right onto Hwy 8/Market St. Drive a half-mile. You'll see the old train station on the left.

Miniature Railroad at Choo Choo Hotel

Closed. They are attempting to renovate the hotel complex and the miniature railroad was a casualty.

The railroad closed in January 2015, but the hotel says it will reopen in a more prominent spot right off the main lobby -- when renovations are complete.

Large Model Railroad Exhibit

One of the largest HO scale model train displays in the U.S. It is 174 feet long and 33 feet wide. Over 3,000 feet of track and 1,200 cars. A lot of the display is modeled after Chattanooga. It's located in the model railroad museum at the Choo Choo Hotel.

The Choo Choo Hotel is the former Chattanooga train station. Visitors can choose to spend the night inside a 100-year-old railroad car.

At the famous Chattanooga Choo Choo there is an enormous train model depicting several different scenes. It must have taken years to build and is very nice. It has aged a bit but is still worth a look. Admission was under $5 the last time I was there.
