San Luis, Colorado: Mother Mary's Totem
Carved in 2008 by a third generation Native-American Master Totem Carver. Part of desert garden that will eventually includes labryinths, a medicine wheel, and a "star child circle."

- Five miles southwest of San Luis. Drive south on Hwy 159 toward the New Mexico state line. Turn west onto County Rd P toward Manassa/LaJara. Drive one mile. The entrance to the Garden is on the left, a few feet past the bridge over the Sanchez Canal.

They have put in a lot of work, and the area is truly beautiful. The fountain was still a work-in-progress when we visited, and the swing hadn't been set yet, but there was still a lot to see.

Mother Mary's statue was installed September 18, 2008, as the centerpiece of the garden at the Casa de Santa Maria. It was hand carved by a third generation Native-American Master Totem Carver of the Haida Tribe of Ketchikan, Alaska, Lee Wallace (Guugwaangs).
