Set the story straight. I was there [in 2005] and witnessed the Uniroyal lady driven over, or rather crashed into. The intersection was open, a truck flew through the red light, as occurs all day on Washington st., and the woman driving the car on a green light tried to avoid impact and drove into the Uniroyal woman. The newspapers said the driver was without injuries. Then why did it take over six firemen/paramedics/ bystanders/police to free her? I was eating my lunch from 152 feet away and watched for half an hour. I saw it from point one to finish. The truth of the story is within whom was there!
So...the old woman was blamed, and that is wrong.

The Uniroyal Gal who suffered a crippling strike from a car last summer is back on her feet, and she look great! She's still at her former location at Plaza Tire -- she has a brand new pedestal, a fresh coat of paint, and a change of wardrobe. It's a little sad that the siren is no longer in her red bikini, but she now sports her slinky snap-on pencil skirt and sweater combo. However, I probably wouldn't allow the artist who painted her to do my makeup. The rouge is a little scary.
[Julie Coulter, 08/31/2006]I grew up in Peoria where the Plaza Tire (formerly Uniroyal) tie statue is. I've always heard the rumor that this is the 'statue wearin' high heels' that Creedence Clearwater Revival refers to in the song "Lookin' Out My Backdoor." Can anyone confirm or deny this interesting rumor?
[chris richerson, 09/20/2005]Peoria, Illinois residents were horrified on Friday afternoon, July 29, when a car driven by an 89-year old woman who disobeyed a "traffic control device" was struck by another car and careened into the legs of the bikini-clad Uniroyal Gal on Washington Ave. The statue was clipped at the ankles, breaking off one set of toes and damaging her bright red high-heeled shoes....
[07/31/2005] Complete News StoryThe Uniroyal gal in Peoria, IL, is nowhere near a stock car racing track; otherwise the street names are correct. I lived there all my young life and my stepfather (a hellraiser of some renown) was once blamed when a triangular patch of black carpeting was found one morning pasted over the gal's pubes. He insists he's innocent.

Hadn't heard that, but this line provides geolocation: "Just got home from illinois, lock the front door, oh boy!" And this is the line that might refer to the Uniroyal gal: "...a giant doing cartwheels, a statue wearin' high heels." But we have no report of a cartwheeling giant or the other hallucinations in the song.
