Salem, Oregon: Oregon State Hospital Cremains Memorial
Building 60 contained the copper canisters of 3,600 cremated patients, most from the former mental hospital. Rediscovered "Room of Forgotten Souls" during 2004 basement tour. Memorial opened in 2014. 1975 film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" filmed at hospital.

Nearly 700 cremains have been returned to their families as of September 2020. They are being claimed. I was honored to accept my great grandfather's in 2019.

My grandfather-in-law was the superintendent that allowed the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" to be filmed at the state hospital.
They have just finished building the new Cremains Memorial building and have put in a really nice museum. Has things from movie. Must see if in town.

The Hospital originally had nearly 4,000 copper canisters of cremated patients on display. Sounds like about 3,000 are still there.
