[Lauren Meyers, 06/03/2013]Years ago, the big Indian had a hand down at his side, fingers pointing to the ground and thumb extended out and away. Well, from the side, it looked like...um...he was an excited Indian. The hand design has since been modified.

A bit of local lore about the Muff-Man in Native American dress at McCombs Used Car lot off NW Loop 410. My friend, recounting high school days (late '60s) of late-night mischief with buddies, would unload a round of arrows into the crotch of "Big Chief," drive-by style from the back of a junker pick-up.
I'm not sure about this detail, but I believe the prank might have been a pre-game ritual against football rivals (i.e.,Chiefs, Warriors, Indians etc.). I should say that he recounted the story with regret and embarrassment; his belated fondness and reverence for this enduring local landmark was easy to see ...
Up close can see that "Big Chief" has taken a lot of shots (arrow and otherwise) but is still standing as tall, strong and handsome as ever.
