- Illinois State Military Museum. North edge of the city. Just west of Oak Ridge Cemetery and Lincoln's tomb. On MacArthur Blvd, one block north of Grand Ave. Drive past the gated Illinois National Guard headquarters and head straight north to the white building that looks like an old fort.

Unfortunately, the entire diorama in which Santa Ana's artificial leg was displayed has been "removed for restoration." The lone staff member on duty told us it would be "2 to 3 years" before it was on display again. The rest of this very small museum is interesting from the standpoint of Illinois' contributions to America's wars.
[Mark Menich, 07/11/2017]I live in Springfield, home of the artificial leg of Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna which is located in a museum in the National Guard Armory on North Grand Avenue. This was the subject of a spoof on an episode of "King of the Hill," but the fact is that we DO have the leg, and we ain't giving it back! Remember the Alamo!

The leg display was replaced with a World War I display, and won't return until after the end-of-WWI centennial in late 2018. So it probably won't be back on display until 2019.
