This 1,150-foot-long bridge, built in 1920s, is the only granite crib bridge in America. The roadway rests on top of crisscrossed granite blocks with large openings, which allow the strong tides to pass through.

The only one of its kind in the world, this bridge connects Orr's Island to Bailey Island and is built on crisscross blocks of granite with only the asphalt of the road holding it together. The bridge was built in this way to allow strong tidal waters (and ice floes in the winter) to pass through relatively unimpeded. Restored in 2012, the reconstruction followed very strict guidelines to keep the historical integrity of the bridge intact.
