Las Vegas, Nevada: $28.2 Million Statue of Popeye

Art schlockmeister Jeff Koons had his assistants build a seven-foot-tall Popeye out of a ton of mirror-polished steel. Billionaire Steve Wynn bought it for an obscene amount of money. Wynn now also pays two security guards to watch the statue constantly.

$28.2 Million Statue of Popeye

As of mid-October 2017 it was still there. I asked one of the guards and he said they have plans to move it, but wasn't sure when. He also said that there are plans to replace it with an Olive Oil with a similar price tag.

Steve Wynn is sharing his opulent Popeye pop art purchase with the public! Placed on display July 2014, the sculpture by Jeff Koons will be here until late 2017, when Wynn says he will move it to another casino in Massachusetts.
