Smallwood's Store first opened in 1906, and was shuttered almost eight decades later with everything inside left as is. It reopened as a museum in 1990, with an emphasis on its oldest artifacts, displayed as if it were still a pioneer trading post. It claims to be the southernmost inhabited spot on the west coast of Florida.
