Statue of Pope John Paul II

The first Polish Pope has a statue downtown commemorating his visit to this predominantly Polish city on September 22, 1969. Free to visit.

The bronze figure stands on a 24-ft. tall granite tower which reminds us of a high dive platform (this Pope was known for his athleticism). His 1969 pre-Pope visit was as Karol Wojtyla.
