Lansing, Kansas: Graves of the In Cold Blood Killers

Richard Hickock and Perry Smith brutally murdered the Clutter family and were hanged on April 14, 1965. In Cold Blood author Truman Capote purchased headstones for them. After they were stolen in 1980, the graves were marked with small tombstones flush with the ground.

Mount Muncie Cemetery

Muncie Rd, Lansing, KS
From downtown Lansing drive north 1.5 miles on US Hwy 73. At stoplight (Ford dealership) turn east onto Hwy 5/Muncie Rd. Drive a half-mile. You'll pass the entrance to Leavenworth Cemetery on the left, then the road bends right, then you'll see the entrance to Mount Muncie Cemetery on the left. Turn left into the cemetery, and then immediately bear right. Follow the road a quarter-mile, through one intersection, as it curves to the left. Another road will enter from the right. Just after that, look to the right; you'll see a slight downward slope in an open field of flush-with-the-ground gravestones with an evergreen tree at the bottom. The graves are just to the right of that tree, nine rows in from road. If you come to a left-and-right split in the road you've driven too far.

The directions to the cemetery and killers' grave site are spot on, except the pine tree is not so small any more.
