Sadly, Gary Turner, proprietor of The Gay Parita service station, passed away in January 2015. Gary built the station in 2004 to replicate one that was originally on his property and was destroyed by a fire in the 1950s. Gary would sit in the station just waiting to greet Route 66 travelers and would chat with you for as long as you would listen.
I had the pleasure of talking with Gary on two different trips down 66 and his passing will leave a void on the Mother Road that will never be filled. The fate of Gary's beloved station at this time is unknown.
