North Salem, New York: Balanced Rock

Unlike most rock attractions, this one conveniently balanced itself next to a normal road, and has a sign and parking area. How did this 60-ton pink granite boulder end up balanced atop five much smaller rocks? Geologists say it was a glacier; others say it was hauled into place by Bronze Age mariners.

667 Titicus Rd, North Salem, NY
On the east side of Hwy 121/Titicus Rd a half-mile south of where it merges with Hwy 116. Just south of the Union Hall (the biggest building in a tiny town) and a yellow house. Pull off the road into the small parking lot, but don't block the garage.
