Bronx, New York: Gates of the Famous from 1995
In response to the old, white male dominated Hall of Fame for Great Americans elsewhere in the Bronx, P.S. 15, in 1995, had created two 12-foot-high bronze gates festooned with heads of of the people it considered fame-worthy. MLK and JFK are expected, but look for Gloria Estefan, Ralph Nader, Roberto Clemente and Jim Henson. Some of the heads look crazy, others scary.
