Madame Tussaud's 260th Birthday
Madame Tussaud was born 260 years ago in France. She became famous for making wax copies of the heads chopped off during the French Revolution, then displaying them in her London museum. Today, Madame Tussaud's franchise wax museums (such as this one in San Francisco) often feature a scene of her at work in her studio with her heads, pioneering the vital role that wax museums play in society. They tell us who are the truly important people, the ones so famous that we pay to pose with their likenesses (although it's unlikely that wax Madame Tussaud herself attracts much celebrity attention).
