Pretty amazing sculpture! Safe area. Park and walk on school grounds.
[Vance Erwin, 05/01/2023]
"Knowledge is Power," a $1 million bronze sculpture by Zenos Frudakis, was unveiled on Nov. 21, 2014. The sculpture, 8 by 12 feet, weighing more than 1,500 pounds, depicts an open book containing portraits and quotes from 31 intellectual icons ranging from Gandhi to Einstein.
Two life-size figures at either end, holding open the book, portray Dr. Francesca Shaughnessy, now 89, who commissioned the work, and her late brother Sebastian Cottone. The siblings, who were raised in South Philadelphia, devoted their lives to the pursuit of knowledge, teaching, and service to others.
[Laurie Zambrano, 12/05/2014]Zenos Frudakis also sculpted "Freedom" in Philadelphia, which, like this sculpture, features a bronze body emerging into the air (in this new sculpture it's Einstein escaping from folded space).
