Full Size and Mini Oil Derricks
To commemorate the discovery of oil and gas in the area in the early 1900s, and to celebrate the city's 150th birthday in 1984, an oil derrick was erected in Howell Park, just east of downtown. The derrick was originally in another part of the county, but was disassembled and moved to the park as part of the city's birthday celebration.
There are also other oil-related relics, and a miniature derrick at the southeast corner of SR 664 and Marietta Road.
