Cannon Rock was mistaken for a cannon during the Revolutionary War. It is perched on three small stones on the edge of a cliff. In the 19th century it was considered evidence of Viking settlement in the area.
In the 20th century it has been considered evidence of Phoenician and Druid settlement, and thought of as a dolman. Laurie Cabot, the famed Salem witch, has spent time communicating with Druid spirits here.
In recent times dynamiting for housing development has made the town secure the stone with timbers and cement so that it does not tumble onto the houses below. See this natural wonder before the tragedy happens.
