A small herd of buffalo roam the grass above what was until a few years ago the world's largest particle accelerator.

- I-88 exit onto Farnsworth Ave. N. Drive north three miles. Turn right onto Pine St. Drive east about a mile to Rd D. If you don't immediately spot the herd on the left, continue on Rd D, turn left onto Batavia Rd, then left again onto Rd C. They roam inside that rough equilateral triangle.

Fermilab, home to what was (until a few years ago) the world's largest particle accelerator, is also where a herd of buffalo roam. Okay, okay, they are technically bison, but most most people refer to the mangy critters as "buffalo." If you are on Road D, you might also see a parked tanker; it delivers the frigid liquid nitrogen that's used to chill the accelerator's super-conducting magnets.
