Mount Pleasant, South Carolina: Aircraft Carrier and Mini-Vietnam
The USS Yorktown aircraft carrier has been here since 1976. There's also a 2.5-acre outdoor recreation of a Vietnam War support base, complete with choppers and PT boats. USS Clamagore submarine, formerly here, sprouted leaks and has been scrapped.

- Patriots Point. I-26 exit 220 or 220B. Drive east, cross the Ravenel Bridge. At the end of the bridge merge right onto Coleman Blvd/Hwy 703. At first traffic light turn right onto Bud Darby Lane. Follow Bud Darby Lane until it ends and becomes Patriots Point Rd.

We spent the entire day at Patriots Point, learning the history and exploring the USS Yorktown, USS Laffey, and USS Clamagore. My military-loving 15 yr old loved it!

Plan on taking lots of time to see everything, and try to go on a cooler day. The Vietnam portion seemed kind of cheesy at first, but once we wandered around a bit it was really interesting and unique.
