Grave Shaped Like Boat
It's a very small cemetery, so it wasn't a problem finding the boat grave. Discovered unique things in there while walking. Parking is no problem.
[bordeauxbarb, 02/06/2021]Grave Shaped Like Boat The historic cemetery has been in operation since the late 1800s. There are several headstones that have pictures of boats. The "boat"-shaped headstone is the most unique. Certainly reflective of Englewood. There are also several hand-carved older tombstones that are interesting. [Shannon Hiser, 08/25/2015]
Grave Shaped Like Boat
Right on Rt. 776, there is the small, relatively overlooked raised area referred to as Historic Lemon Bay Cemetery. There are about 700 folks, many of them pioneers, buried here and it is the home of an interesting grave.
A walk through Lemon Bay Cemetery beckons visitors to the boat-like gravestone of local fishing pioneer H.H. Bill Ainger. H. H. (Bill) Anger, (b. 1915 d. 1990) was a pioneer in the Englewood fishing industry, which accounts for his unusually shaped grave site. His tombstone is placed inside a concrete boat, complete with steering pedestal and wheel, and tied up to two posts.
