Big Pink Flamingo
What may be the tallest flamingo in Florida -- seven feet tall -- stands atop the shack of Flamingo Deep Sea Fishing in the Bahia Mar marina. It is mounted on the base of an old radar dome, so it spins around and around and back and forth. Captain Allen, the owner of the fishing boat, told me that this is the last of the three he had made by the Gray Taxidermy company in Pompano Beach. The other two were stolen, so he has this one anchored down quite well. "It attracts a great deal of attention," he told me. "Flamingo is the name of my boat and the company, so it's important people see it. It's a good way to explain where we are."
