After abandoning his fourth wife in Indiana, Dr. Brewster Higley found himself living in a hole in the ground at this spot in 1871. That's when he wrote the words to Home on the Range. He built the little cabin "home" a year later, and his poem was eventually set to music by another local man, Dan Kelly. Harold Warp wanted the cabin so much for his Pioneer Village (in Nebraska) that he offered its owners (in Kansas) a blank check, but they refused.
