The airplane is still there. One of the things I found interesting was that the propellers were turning even though it was a very light breeze.

The history behind this out-of-the-way oddity is mostly unknown (to us). We do know that the owner lived across the street, and evidently had this plane flown into the Cullman airfield (several miles away), then trucked over back roads to his gas station/convenience store. But it's a rural location on a lightly-traveled highway, so even an eye-grabbing airplane mounted above the gas pumps apparently couldn't prevent his business from eventually crashing.
