Irvine, California: Taco Bell Numero Uno (In Transition)
Glen Bell opened the world's first Taco Bell restaurant in Downey in March 1962. Closed as a Taco Bell in 1986. Moved to Taco Bell HQ in Irvine on Nov. 20, 2015. As of Oct. 2024 it was still sitting on its trailer at the far corner of Taco Bell parking lot, wrapped in a tarp, dwarfed by the headquarters building.

- Taco Bell Headquarters. I-5 exit 94 or 94B. Turn east onto Alton Pkwy, then make first right onto Gateway, then make first right into Taco Bell Headquarters. Bear right, and drive around behind the parking garage to the back parking lot. The tiny Taco Bell building sits at the far corner of the parking lot, still on its transport trailer.

I visited the site on October 8 and the Taco Bell restaurant is wrapped entirely and sealed under a tarp.
