Pierre of d' Nort is a wacky 12-foot-tall cartoon-style sculpture of a northwoods fisherman, sitting on a rock on an aluminum pier. The grinning giant has just caught a boot (a donated flight deck boot from a sailor who served on the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier).
This fiberglass creation was custom-made over five years -- mostly on site, during slow winter months -- by Hollywood character artist Carl Surges, who is the owner of Pier of d'Nort Corp., which manufactures aluminum piers. Carl has crafted giant and miniature cartoon and character sculptures for Disney, Universal Studios, Industrial Light and Magic, Warner Brothers, and many others. Surgessculpting.com showcases his works.
