Between Floresville's big peanut and Poteet's large strawberries is the Longhorn Museum, which is also a tourist information center. I happened upon it by accident as I was headed down the road in search of the large strawberries. The exhibits seek to inform visitors of the history of Atascosa County. There is memorabilia from the 1800s on up. There is a full-size stuffed longhorn near the entryway, but in the back banquet room are many donated trophies of gazelle, deer, elk, moose, bighorn sheep, pronghorn, lions, tigers, and bears.
At one time the SAU&G railroad went by, so there is an old caboose on the museum grounds as well.
What does this place have over the longhorn collection further down the road in Lajitas? It definitely is more educational, and the young ones might enjoy being up close to a lion that is about to pounce!
