Clay's Corner

This place is now closed. Clay has retired, but a sign says the Possom Drop will continue.

Clay's Corner convenience store is the site of the New Year's Eve Possum Drop (It's a stuffed possum).

Home of the Possum Drop

This little corner service station is filled with oddities, and we certainly felt like aliens stopping in. At its core it's just a poorly stocked convenience store in a decrepit building. But it's practically idolatrous commitment to all things possum make it a fun stop.

There was so much I didn't understand, including a sign declaring this corner the "Zone of Lawlessness," and the Hollywood style sign on the hill across the street announcing your arrival in the booming metropolis "Brasstown."

Apparently they build a big stage at New Year's and lower a possum at midnight. I have not been to this ritual and my desire to go is tempered by my fear of venturing into "Banjo Land" after dark.
